Made it to Dehra Dun

Hi All,

We’re doing it = D God is Good! I could not have authored this story but I’ll try and write it up as I’ve time and opportunity (yesterday the power was not working). We arrived in Dehra Dun late the day before yesterday, and it is wonderful being here again, coming back has truly been a homecoming affair. Yesterday morning I was journaling on my balcony overlooking the Himalayan foothills marveling that all this is available to me. The journey has not been without incident, but all things have worked together for good and the expedition’s been incredibly rewarding. Many have loved us beyond what I could have imagined or hoped. Dad and I stayed with my friend Shaleam who lives in Delhi two nights and then he and his family opened their house to my friend Jess as well. I met Ujala Thursday and Saturday her husband Chuck. They took us out to an incredible dinner that night and we stayed in their home. Incredibly they also provided for our transport to Dun on Sunday! I’m always astonished at how warmly the stranger is welcomed here in India. Given the attention Pop requires, I do not have as much time to write as I’d like. There is rarely much delay between his requests. This has only been a real difficulty during one period when I was exhausted but Pop was not tired. He made four requests repetitively while scooting the sharp steel legs of his cot across the polished concrete. The questions and unearthly metallic screeching continued until 4:15 am. Non of the requests were reasonable given the hour, however, because the effect of his pill’s wears off during the night, he didn’t see it that way. It is a privilege working with Dad to enable a richer life for us both, but some times are challenging beyond what one might imagine. I organized his pill containers for the week today. He takes 6 prescriptions amounting to 16 pills each day. They are given during 5 different hours over the course of the day and two additional drugs are administered PRN. The schedule can be tweaked significantly and I’ve gotten good results spreading the administration to 7 separate times and breaking up the stimulants and anxiety drugs. I’ve really seen his processing improve over the past days. Little cognitive science in action (which I studied at UVA :-) I asked Dad what he wanted to tell everyone and he said: “you’re a good son, you’re a blessing, I pray for you and I appreciate you.” We picked up the Bike yesterday and Issy’s looking good. Dad enjoyed the ride a lot and even caught his cap when it almost blew off! We’re going to take a ride on the forest road over to Rishikesh today. P.S. if you want the skinny re: states side leg check: www.twitter.com/popsdaddyo On the way to the airport my car broke down, and we ran into some trouble with the cops, but I got it all on video ;-) His Love, -Jonathan
